How does the treatment work?
This is a great peel for under the eyes to tighten the skin. We can lighten pigmentation that a laser could not reach. Also decrease the appearence of fine lines and dark circles. THis helps to lessen that tired eye look.
Why would I want to have a chemical peel done?
A chemical peel is done to remove fine lines and wrinkles and to even out your skin tone, leaving you with younger looking smoother skin. A peel can be done over the entire face or just specific areas. It does not replace a facelift as it won’t eliminate sagging skin, but many patients benefit from a combination of the two procedures. It can also be done over the arms, hands, and chest. It generally is not as stong as laserbrasion, but there is less pinkness of the skin after the procedure.
What are the different chemical peels available?
Glycolic Acid and TCA are the most common peel solutions available today.
The Glycolic Acid peel is a light peel which can be repeated every two weeks for several months if desired. This peel has almost no recovery time so it is perfect for the patient who needs to return to normal activities immediately. A stronger TCA Chemical Peel can also be done for the treatment of deeper wrinkles and to reduce the lines around the lower eyelids and lips. This peel can be done alone or at the same time as other plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift or eyelid surgery.
What will I experience in the days following a chemical peel?
Following a Glycolic Acid Peel, you will experience mild pinkness similar to a mild sunburn for a day or so. The TCA chemical peel is followed by crusting which will last up to a week.
How long is a chemical peel procedure?
This procedure takes between 15 minutes and 1 hour depending on how much is being peeled.
